| is. Get an engine stethascope or just use a long screw driver or long thin (1/2") wood dowl rod. Place one tip on engine and the other againast your ear. Probe the engine parts. As Draker (Eugene, OR) states lifters are a higher pitch tick and very noticable from top side, a knock is a dull sound more noticable from below. A rod knock can most times be located by removing the spark to that cylinder and listening to the change in the sound. If the rod bearings are suspect the sound will reduce when spark is removed from that cylindere. Loose piston slap noises are harder to determine and can sometimes dissappear when the engine warms up. Finding noises can be a PITA but patience is required. How is the oil pressure? The OEM dash gage is only approximate and actual pressure requires a mechanical gage be installed to check. What weight and brand oil have you been using?
